The captivating taste and aroma of the beer is really pleasing. But we must not forget the importance of moderate consumption of the drink - for health, family and social life.
Beer has millions of fans worldwide. Many associate the consumption of a refreshing drink with the experience of pleasure and enjoyment, as well as the opportunity for social communication.
A number of studies show that beer can be part of a healthy lifestyle in adults. Of course, if consumed in acceptable quantities - for women up to 2 small glasses of beer, and for men up to 3 glasses per day.
Beer is a significant source of hops in our diet. Its content includes brewer's yeast, water, malt. It is rich in useful vitamins, minerals and antioxidants contained in the raw materials used in the production of amber liquid. Depending on the recipe according to which it is prepared, the percentage of alcohol content in the drink is determined, varying from less than 3-17%. The qualities of beer depend a lot on its density, the concentration of dry matter in it. Its traditional density is 12%, otherwise it occurs from 8% to 12%. The density is directly related to the alcohol content, at a density of 12%, it is about 5%.
According to data from the Union of Brewers in Bulgaria, about 25% of consumers distinguish beer as a natural and healthy drink.
What are the health benefits of moderate beer consumption?
Cardiovascular disease
According to several studies, moderate alcohol consumption can improve cardiovascular disease by raising the level of good - HDL cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart attack by almost 30%. Beer contains vitamin B6 and folic acid, which help prevent the accumulation of homocysteine in the blood. High levels of the amino acid can damage blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.
Diabetes
There is some evidence that alcohol can increase insulin sensitivity, which in turn reduces the risk of diabetes.
Kidney stones
According to a study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology, the risk of kidney stones is reduced by 40% in middle-aged men who consume beer compared to fans of other types of alcohol. However, scientists are still unable to determine which component of beer is responsible for this decline.
Dementia
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that adults over the age of 65 who drank 1-6 glasses of beer a week were more protected against developing dementia than abstainers or heavy drinkers.
A report by the American Heart Association shows that drinking 1-2 beers a day improves cognitive function in women. They are related to the processing of information in the brain and include functions such as comprehension, decision making, memory and learning - abilities that are lost in dementia.
How does beer overconsumption affect health?
In general, excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages can lead to liver cancer, cirrhosis, obesity and alcoholism.
It is believed that excessive beer consumption may increase the risk of a fatal event in cardiovascular disease. There are studies that show that there are better ways to protect against these socially significant diseases. For example, leading a healthy lifestyle and diet and increasing physical activity.
Overdose has also been shown to be associated with the development of colon cancer and breast cancer.
Chronic hypertension and weight gain are other side effects on health.
Beer and beer belly
It is not necessary for beer consumption to "shape" a beer belly. Excess calories from any food source can also be the culprit for the unpleasant curve of the body. However, high-calorie drinks contribute more to the appearance of belly fat, due to the tendency to drink too much without feeling full. 300 ml of beer contains 150 calories. Beer increases hunger and provokes the pointless consumption of high-calorie, fatty and sweet foods. Light beers, for example, contain about 60-100 calories. One of the reasons they are more preferred by women.
