Regular consumption of fried foods can double the weight of people prone to obesity , according to a new study.

Scientists are aware that certain groups of people have a genetic predisposition to obesity, as genes play a role in the way the body processes foods high in fat and sugar

A study by researchers at King's College London found that eating fried foods could interact with obesity-related genes , doubling that risk.

The study involved 37,000 men and women who provided information on the frequency of their fried foods. Researchers also assess genetic risk based on 32 different genetic variants known to be linked to obesity and body mass index

Participants who have the highest risk of gaining weight and consume fried foods four or more times a week have a two-point higher body mass index than those who eat fried foods once a week.

The analysis shows that consuming them more than four times a week doubles their effect on the body in people genetically predisposed to obesity.

The data does not mean that the rest are insured against gaining extra pounds . Another recent study shows that the risk of obesity is significantly higher in people who consume large amounts of food from fast food restaurants.

Data from the current study are published in the journal BMJ .
