Researchers hope that the study could help solve some global problems due to lack of self-control.
Rinsing the mouth with sugar-sweetened water improves concentration and self-control.
51 students took part in the study. Participants were given two exercises to determine self-control. During the exercises, half of them rinse their mouths with sweetened water and the other with clean water.
The results show that volunteers who use sweetened are much faster in solving tasks set by the research team.
According to scientists, this is due to the stimulation of sensors on the tongue responsible for easier concentration and self-control .
Sugar in water also provides energy for the body, which is also a prerequisite for easier decision-making,concentration and control, experts explain.
Researchers hope the study could help address some of the global problems of lack of self-control, such as obesity, smoking, drug and alcohol use.
Further studies are needed to establish the effect of rinsing the mouth with sweetened water over a longer period of time. It is also necessary to find out exactly how gargling with sweetened water affects emotions .
The results of the study are published in the journal Psychological Science .
