Maintaining a slim figure is one of the best ways to prevent cancer, as limited consumption of red meat and alcohol help. The World Cancer Research Foundation says the link between cancer and overweight is stronger than previously thought. Sufficiently convincing evidence has been found for 6 types of malignancies - 5 more than the data from 10 years ago. Among the new ones are colon cancer and post-menopausal breast cancer. Professor Michael Murmott says that people should be as weak as normal limits for the individual.
A report analyzing more than 7,000 studies highlights several key findings. Processed meat (ham and bacon) increases the risk of colon cancer and should be consumed in moderation. On the other hand, red meat is also associated with this disease. The recommendations are for no more than 500 grams of red meat per week (700-750 g of raw). Another dangerous agent is alcohol.
Scientists believe that there are a number of links between cancer and adipose tissue. One of them is hidden in the hormonal balance, depending on the latter. Fat cells are involved in the metabolism of estrogen, and their increased levels have been linked to the risk of breast cancer. Other types of cancer in which a hormonal imbalance is found are that of the esophagus, pancreas, uterine lining and others.
The report also mentions some preventive measures - physical activity 30-60 minutes a day, drinking enough water, but not carbonated soft drinks, consumption of fruits and vegetables, cereals and salt restriction.
