The liver performs many important functions in the body - detoxification of alcohol and drugs, processing of harmful foods, etc. For this reason, it is prone to disease. The treatment of liver damage is accompanied by the application of a specific diet.
Diet №5 is a diet developed for the specific needs of the liver. Recommended for diseases such as acute hepatitis, cholecystitis, chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, cholelithiasis. It is characterized by a decrease in the daily intake of proteins and fats and an increased proportion of carbohydrates.

 


Animal fats are completely excluded, proteins are mostly vegetable. Food should be boiled or baked, avoid fried foods.

 

It is recommended to eat at least 5 meals in small portions. Avoid overeating. Low fat make the regimen not only healing but also contributing to weight loss.

 

The purpose of the diet is to protect the liver from harmful food and to provide it with adequate nutrition, helps to normalize its activity, improves bile secretion. The daily caloric intake is about 2400 - 2600. It is recommended to drink at least 1.5 - 2 liters of fluids. 
What does the regime allow and what does it prohibit?

 

Of the pasta, whole grain products are recommended - bread, pasta. Avoid white bread and other pastries made from refined wheat flour as well as butter dough.

Eat soups . Vegetable soups are extremely suitable for liver diseases as well as cereal soups with vegetable broth, beetroot soup. The products for these soups should not be fried.

Fish, mushroom and soups containing fatty meats are prohibited.

 

Of the meat products , pure or low-fat meats without skin, tendons, etc. are recommended. You can eat pure beef, lamb, chicken, turkey, rabbit meat, without fat. Prepare it by boiling, baking or grilling. Frying is prohibited. The best option for cooking is cooking.
Avoid eating fatty meats such as duck, goose, liver, kidneys, brain, sausages.

 

Eat fish regularly , only lean species such as trout, cod, pike. Avoid fatty fish - salmon, mackerel, carp, herring, as well as canned and smoked fish.

 

Dairy products. The diet allows the consumption of low-fat milk and cream and dishes with them. Cheese and yellow cheese should also be low in fat. Limit all high-fat dairy products as well as high-salt products.
 

Eggs . Diet number 5 limits the consumption of eggs. Consumption of protein is allowed, but not fried. Depending on the condition, one yolk per day is allowed, in case of gallstone disease - ½ yolk.

 

Cereals . In this regime, cereals are highly recommended. Especially oatmeal products and dishes with them, as well as buckwheat. Eat them combined with dried fruits and vegetables. Prefer wholemeal pasta.

 

Vegetables . Eat lots of vegetables - raw, cooked, stewed, steamed, but not fried. They can be as a main dish or side dish, salads, etc., sauerkraut (not too salty), onions, pea puree.
From vegetables avoid spinach, radishes, sorrel, green onions, garlic, mushrooms, avoid pickled vegetables.

 

Make small snacks between main meals. These can be fresh fruits and vegetables, salads with olive oil, lean fish, low-fat milk, cheese, cheese.
Avoid high-fat snacks, pickles and eggs.

 

Fruits and pastries. Fruits can be consumed in any form - raw, cooked, dried, in the form of compotes, jellies, marmalades, etc. Consumption of honey is allowed. It is desirable to partially replace white sugar with sweeteners. If we aim to lose weight, this is a must.

Avoid chocolate and ice cream.

 

Spices . Spices such as dill, parsley, cinnamon, vegetable mixes and fruits can be used. Mustard, horseradish and pepper are prohibited.

 

Drinks . Coffee is not completely forbidden, but it should be with milk and no more than 1-2 cups a day. Avoid high-caffeine teas. Fruit juices are allowed, but avoid those with added sugar. Reduce, and best of all, quit smoking.
Avoid black coffee, cocoa, carbonated drinks

 

Fat . Prefer refined vegetable fats.
Lard, as well as sheep and beef tallow, are strictly forbidden.

Breakfast: Cottage cheese, flavored if desired, oatmeal, tea
Second breakfast: Fruit (apple, pear)
Lunch: Vegetable or chicken soup. Chicken meat is cleaned of skin and fat. Rice with dried fruits or vegetables.
Afternoon snack: Tea, fruit
Dinner: Clean meat - boiled, fish, potatoes and dishes with them.
Last meal. If you are hungry after dinner, it is appropriate to eat low-fat yogurt.
