Can restricting coffee consumption prevent us from fighting weight? This question is answered by a team of scientists from Cornell University in the American city of Ithaca. He proves that a person's desire to consume sweets increases if he gives up one intake of the aromatic drink for the day.
During the study it became clear that coffee not only invigorates but also reduces the body's need for sweets. "When you drink coffee with caffeine, you change your taste sensations . Therefore, if you eat food directly after drinking coffee or another caffeinated beverage, your receptors will perceive it in a completely different way, "said Prof. Robin Dando, head of the study.
The team analyzed 170 volunteers and randomly divided them into two groups. The first had to drink coffee with 20 milligrams of caffeine, which was stronger than the others. The other participants received decaffeinated coffee , but with another supplement, through which it would have the same bitterness as the first one. The same amount of sugar was added to both hot drinks.
The results, published in the journal Food Scienc , were astonishing. People found the caffeinated drink to be less sweet. Analysts have found that caffeine has the ability to "freeze" our taste buds , leading to greater alertness and significantly reducing the jam receptor, which makes us eat different things. Vigilance is obvious even if there is no caffeine in the drink. That is, the intake of decaffeinated coffee has a similar effect on the body - our mind expects a certain result after drinking the aromatic and at the same time bitter liquid.
One of the disadvantages of coffee is that when we exaggerate with it, we do not feel more cheerful and energetic, but rather nervous and anxious. This is due to the product of adrenaline released during the excitation of brain cells from caffeine.
