A Glass Of Red Wine A Day Regulates Blood Sugar Levels

Consumption of one glass of red wine a day delays the development of type 2 diabetes ...

Red wine helps regulate blood sugar in the body, say scientists from the University of the Environment and Applied Sciences in Vienna. The effect is due to the high concentration of polyphenols in the relaxing drink, explained the research team.

Polyphenols are natural chemicals. They are located in the skin of the grapes. They have a unique ability to bind free radicals formed in the body under the influence of sunlight, cigarette smoke, stress and the polluted environment. Unbound free radicals are extremely harmful to the body, they are responsible for cell aging and a number of diseases.

According to scientists, moderate consumption of wine can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes.

Diabetes mellitus is a disorder of metabolism in the human body. The main manifestation of this disorder is impaired carbohydrate metabolism and elevated blood sugar. The disease leads to a number of serious health consequences, such as cardiovascular, stroke, neurosis, kidney problems, eye diseases.

Type 2 diabetes is also called non-insulin dependent. It is usually found in people over 40 years of age.

In type 2 diabetes, the pancreas does not produce enough insulin - the hormone responsible for regulating blood sugar - as a result of which blood sugar cannot enter the cells and remains permanently elevated.

About 2.6 million people worldwide suffer from Type 2 diabetes .
