Against Heart Disease In Women - Moderate Alcohol Consumption. Proven!

Between 15 and 14.9 g of alcohol, equivalent to a small beer of 330 ml, is a moderate amount with a beneficial effect on the female body.

Moderate alcohol consumption minimizes the risk of sudden cardiac death in women, according to a study first published in Hearth Rhythm, the official journal of the cardiology community in Boston, USA.


The main challenge for the team, which has been conducting the study for 30 years, is to establish the direct relationship between alcohol consumption - beer, wine and alcohol - and its impact on the risk of sudden cardiac death in women.


The results are based on studies involving 85,067 women between the ages of 30 and 55 who did not suffer from chronic diseases at the start of the study.


 


Every four years from 1980 to 2010, the individual alcohol intake of each of the study participants was analyzed.


Statistics show that 50% of study participants consume up to 15 g of alcohol per day, another 4% of the daily dose of alcohol varies between 30 g and 49.9 g, and 26% are abstainers.


Less than 1% of the observed women consume more than 50 g of alcohol per day. In the process of scientific research, 295 cases of sudden cardiac death and 987 cases of fatal outcome due to other forms of cardiovascular disease were reported among the participants. The largest number of cases of myocardial infarction - 2195, in which, however, did not come to a fatal end.


The research team came to several key conclusions. The first is that the risk of sudden cardiac death is lowest for this category of women, who consume between 5 g and 14.9 g of alcohol per day - approximately equivalent to a 330 ml bottle of beer.


Another scientifically based fact is that the degree of risk of sudden cardiac death is almost the same for the participants in the study in the category with the highest alcohol consumption, as well as for those in the group of abstainers.


The relationship between the degree of risk of "non-fatal heart attack" and moderate alcohol consumption is identical. It is almost the same for women who have given up alcohol and for those who have been abstainers.


These facts support the claims of a number of other scientists that a balanced and sensible consumption of alcohol can have a preventive effect on cardiovascular disease.


Numerous studies have been conducted comparing the effects of moderate consumption of beer, wine and spirits to determine whether they have the same characteristics in reducing the risk of coronary heart disease. Most likely the protective role is due to the alcohol itself in small and moderate consumption. At the same time, however, beer has a special preventive function in arrhythmias and for another important reason. It is known that beer is rich in magnesium, which plays a positive role in the prevention of ventricular arrhythmias.


This scientific evidence is an important medical fact in the fight against sudden cardiac death syndrome. According to statistics released at the end of last year by the Bulgarian Association of Pacemaking and Electrophysiology, our country ranks first in this disease in the European Union, according to the Center for Food Biology in Bulgaria.
