Bulimia is a disease characterized by eating disorders. The patient experiences bouts of hunger and cannot control the amount of food he eats. Then, the sufferer wants to get rid of what he has eaten by resorting to various methods, such as inducing vomiting, taking laxatives and diuretics, excessive exercise, heavy exercise or starvation.

Women suffer from bulimia more often than men, and in terms of age the disease occurs mostly in adolescents and people under 35 years.

Usually this health problem develops against the background of diseases of the CNS, endocrine glands or due to hormonal disorders.

Useful foods for bulimia

The fight against the disease needs to start with proper nutrition. This means that you should eat mainly 3 times a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) and have 2-3 intermediate meals.

Initially, small portions should be taken, and products and meals should not be heavy on the stomach. Suitable are fruit and vegetable purees, vegetarian soups, porridges (oat, rice, wheat - they cover the walls of the stomach, which has a beneficial effect on their deteriorating and inflamed condition), skim milk products. In the beginning (until the balance of electrolytes in the body is normalized) the patient should give up the consumption of meat and meat dishes, they are considered heavy for the body.

As for the bread, it is good to be from bran or seeds.

The amount of food should be increased gradually, but each portion should not be more than two fists placed next to each other. In this way, the optimal size of the stomach will be maintained, it will not expand and therefore it will not need a large amount of food to be full.

To avoid depression, it is necessary to enrich the menu with fruits and vegetables with orange and yellow colors (peaches, apricots, peppers, citrus, etc.).

The main thing in the diet for bulimia is to be separate, to consume daily hot soups and products rich in potassium, calcium and magnesium, as these substances are the easiest to wash off in the presence of the disease.

In no case do not give up what the body needs, ie, if you eat an apple, for example, eat, but do not eat huge amounts of food.

Dangerous and harmful foods in bulimia:

  • greasy, too spicy, salty and sour foods;
  • semi-finished products, fast food;
  • alcoholic and sweet carbonated beverages;
  • lemon and lemon juice (especially on an empty stomach) has an adverse effect on the already unhealthy walls of the stomach;
  • Freshly baked bread;
  • coffee.

All these products affect the cardiovascular and nervous systems.
