Obesity among children has reached pandemic proportions in the last decade, affecting the incidence of type 2 diabetes. Pediatricians have been monitoring cholesterol since infancy.

The diet should be observed as early as possible. At age 8, most children have long been overweight, say experts at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters in Virginia.

A study conducted there shows that obese children usually start gaining weight during breastfeeding with 0.8 units of Body Mass Index. 90% of them have a BMI> 30 as early as 5 years of age.
