According to the European Journal of Nutrition, a cup of hot chocolate or cocoa in the evening is not a whim, but a health concern . Experiments on mice by Professor Joshua Lambert (University of Pennsylvania) show that pre-sleep cocoa consumption significantly reduces the risk of internal inflammation, obesity and the development of type 2 diabetes. The professor explains this by the high content of flavonoids ( flavonols) in the product. Flavonols are substances that reduce the amount of triglycerides in the blood, dilate blood vessels and make them more elastic. A change in the condition of the vessels is noticed after 10 weeks of using a cocoa drink or hot chocolate before bed. Lambert warns that the results of his research apply only to beverages high in cocoa and low in sugar.
