Saturated fats interfere with the body's ability to "clear" blood sugar, and when combined with caffeinated coffee, the effect can be even worse ...
Caffeine doubles blood sugar levels as a result of eating high-fat foods, according to a new study published in the Journal of Nutrition .
The results show that saturated fats interfere with the body's ability to break down ingested sugar, and when combined with coffee, the effect can be even worse, says researcher Maria-Solei Budoin of the University of Guelph in Canada. Staying sugar in the blood for a long time is harmful because it can affect the organs of our body, the expert added.
In the first phase of the study, men in good health drank specially prepared beverages containing fat. 6 hours later, participants consumed a sweet drink. Scientists have found that a drink rich in fat affects the body's ability to break down sugar. Men's blood sugar levels are 32% higher than before they drank the cocktail.
In the second phase, men drink two cups of caffeinated coffee, 5 hours after drinking the fat drink. 1 hour later they were given the drink with sugar. This time the participants' blood sugar levels increased by 65%.
According to researchers, drinking coffee after eating fatty foods impedes communication between the intestines and the pancreas, which is responsible for producing insulin. The findings are especially important for people at risk for metabolic diseases and type 2 diabetes, the researchers explained.
