Coffee Protects Against Tinnitus

Although the link between tinnitus and caffeine is not clear, it is known to stimulate the central nervous system.

Consumption of coffee can protect women from tinnitus - a condition also known as tinnitus .

Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, USA, observed more than 65,000 healthy women, aged between 30 and 44, over a period of 18 years. It has been found that higher caffeine consumption leads to a reduced risk of developing tinnitus .

Although there have been reported cases of tinnitus , they are limited among women who consume less than 150 mg of caffeine per day. The results show that they are more likely to develop tinnitus than those who consume 450-599 mg of caffeine per day.

Researchers explain that the link between caffeine and tinnitus is unclear. However, caffeine is known to stimulate the central nervous system and previous studies have shown that it has a direct effect on the inner ear.

The researchers note that further research is needed to make any recommendations regarding caffeine consumption and the improvement of tinnitus symptoms.

A study published in the journal Caffeine Research found that excessive caffeine consumption led to symptoms such as agitation and anxiety when the usual "dose" was missed.

Data from the present study are published in the American Journal of Medicine .
