According to research, the ingredients in coffee can slow the development of cirrhosis of the liver caused by alcohol, hepatitis or others.
Drinking coffee every day is associated with a reduced risk of cirrhosis of the liver. Studies show that moderate coffee consumption can reduce the risk of death from the disease by 44% .
Scientists explain that coffee has biologically active ingredients that have anti-inflammatory properties. Some of them are chlorogenic acid , cacheol and cafestole. They have the ability to protect against cirrhosis of the liver.
The exact mechanisms by which coffee can prevent the disease are not entirely clear, but there are some theories. One of them is that paraxanthin , one of the main metabolites of caffeine, inhibits the growth of connective tissue, and this can slow down the development of cirrhosis, liver fibrosis, but also liver cancer.
Experts say there are other studies with more than 430,000 participants, which found that moderate coffee consumption was associated with a significant reduction in developing cirrhosis, especially in those people who overeat or drink alcohol frequently .
Coffee is readily available to anyone and whether filtered, instant or espresso, it can slow the progression of liver disease .
Cirrhosis, or chronic liver disease, is one of the most common causes of death in America, with more than 30,000 people dying each year. According to a recent study, approximately 0.27% of Americans have developed cirrhosis of the liver, and 69% of them do not even know they have the disease. Cirrhosis of the liver can be fatal because it increases the risk of liver failure and cancer .
Cirrhosis occurs due to liver damage. It can be formed as a result of long-term consumption of alcohol, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, drugs, viruses such as hepatitis B and C, and others.
Although usually asymptomatic, cirrhosis can cause weakness, fatigue, jaundice, and loss of appetite. When the liver is "wounded", it tries to recover, but in the process of regeneration, scars form that make it difficult to function. If the disease is detected in time, liver damage can be prevented.
