Increased fiber consumption can help reduce weight and improve health in various aspects. This is according to a new study conducted by researchers at the University of Massachusetts, USA. 
 
The diet prepared by the American Cardiovascular Health Association excludes the consumption of certain foods. In contrast, this diet requires only increased consumption of products that contain fiber .
 
The study involved 240 adults who were at increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes . Half of the participants consumed a high-fiber diet, and the other half consumed a diet prepared by the American Heart Association. 
 
Participants in the first group should increase their fiber intake by at least 30 g per day. The other diet is more complex and includes:
  • Limit calories by consuming larger amounts of fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
  • Consumption of at least 30 g of fiber per day.
  • Consumption of lean products.
  • Reduce sugar and salt .
 

 

  • Consumption of little or no alcohol.
  • Fats , carbohydrates , proteins and cholesterol within certain limits.
 
Lower blood pressure levels were observed in all participants during the study . Insulin resistance also improves. 
 
The researchers explain that both diets offer significant weight loss and have a protective effect against diabetes and metabolic syndrome. They add that a high- fiber diet can be followed much more easily. 
 
The data from the study are published in the Annals of Internal Medicine .
