The highest content of omega-3 fatty acids is obtained through the consumption of fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel ...
Consumption of oily fish twice a week increases life expectancy by two years.
The presence of higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids in the blood , found in oily fish and seafood, reduces the risk of premature death due to cardiovascular disease.
Researchers from Harvard and the University of Washington studied the levels of fatty acids in the blood of 2,700 people over the age of 65 and found that those with higher levels had a longer life expectancy by an average of 2 years.
The study looked at certain biomarkers in the blood of adult volunteers, determining the benefits of eating fish and the many causes of premature death.
In addition to blood tests, volunteers answer a series of questions about their lifestyle, eating habits, available diseases, etc.
Of the fatty acids, docosahexaenoic acid or DHA has the most beneficial effect . It reduces the risk of death from coronary heart disease by 40% and from heart rhythm disorders, arrhythmia, by 45%.
The highest content of omega-3 fatty acids is obtained through the consumption of fatty fish such as tuna, salmon, mackerel, herring , sardines and anchovies .
The results of the study are published in the Annals of Internal Medicine .
