Proper nutrition is the main component of chronic pancreatitis treatment. What can you eat and what should you avoid with this disease?
Compliance with dietary recommendations will allow patients with chronic pancreatitis to minimize the risk of exacerbation of the disease. The principle of medical nutrition consists in chemical sparing of the digestive tract.
For this, doctors recommend excluding from the diet products and dishes that stimulate gastric and pancreatic secretion. These include fatty, smoked, fried foods; pickles; canned food; sour juices; sausages; confectionery and chocolate; hot spices and seasonings; alcohol.
The diet for chronic pancreatitis includes restrictions on the use of certain products, as well as the following recommendations for cooking and eating:
- You need to eat 4-5 times a day, in small portions. Do not overeat so as not to overload the pancreas.
- It is necessary to take food at the same hours. Food should not be too hot or cold.
- Products for cooking must be fresh, of natural origin, in boiled, baked, rarely - in dried form.
- The most common cause of exacerbations of chronic pancreatitis is alcohol, including alcohol tinctures. Therefore, it is better to stay away from these drinks.
- Fatty, especially fried foods should be limited. Excessive fat load provokes exacerbation of the disease. Up to 80 g of fat per day can be added to meals (butter, refined vegetable oil). If for any reason fat consumption increases, additional intake of drugs containing high doses of lipase will be required.
- There should be enough protein in the diet (up to 110-115 g daily, of which up to 60% is animal protein). Protein is found in lean meat, fish, egg white, it improves the processes of recovery of the pancreas and prevents the progression of chronic pancreatitis.
- It is advisable to eat a variety of foods to provide the body with the necessary nutrients.
- You can't abuse sweets. An excess of carbohydrates, especially easily digestible ones, exhausts the insular apparatus of the pancreas and increases the risk of developing diabetes.
