Learn how to eat with different types of kidney stones and get rid of urolithiasis!

Urolithiasis is one of the most common urological diseases, which is often quite painful, with exacerbations and relapses. With this disease, formations called stones appear in the kidneys and urinary tract. They consist of crystals of urinary salts, as well as binding protein compounds. The presence of such "geology" is a very serious reason to worry about your health and take urgent measures to eliminate it.

Why are stones formed?

The direct cause of this disease can be called an increase in the concentration of salts in the urine. Salts gradually settle and turn into sand and stones.

This happens for several reasons:

  • metabolic disorders
  • infectious and inflammatory diseases
  • malformations of the urinary excretory system
  • climatic conditions and nutritional features
Diet is necessary!

Nutrition directly plays a big role in the appearance of stones. Therefore, when this disease is detected, special attention is paid to nutritional issues and a special therapeutic diet is prescribed. This diet is a prerequisite for treatment. Its use in combination with other methods of treatment will help effectively fight the disease.

"The curative diet for urolithiasis aims to restrict the diet of food substances that form sediment or stones in the urinary tract. Detailing depends on the nature of stone formation, - says Kharytonchuk Vadim Mykolayovych, Medical Center "Yurinmed".

What are urinary stones?

To choose the right diet, you need to know exactly which stones you have.

Urinary stones differ in chemical composition. These can be:

  • oxalates
  • phosphates
  • cheer up
  • carbonate, cystine, protein and cholesterol stones are less common

There are special contraindications and dietary recommendations for each type of stone.

General recommendations

The following recommendations are characteristic of all types of diets for urolithiasis:

  • reducing the volume of food
  • food restriction
  • variety
  • reducing salt intake

Diet with oxalates

The main task when these stones appear is to limit the use of oxalic acid. If you reduce the concentration of this acid in the urine, the precipitation of salts will stop.

You can not eat sorrel, spinach, lettuce, rhubarb, figs, chocolate, cocoa, nuts, products containing gelatin.

It is also recommended to limit the intake of vitamin C with products. In the period of exacerbation, it is better to limit the use of dairy products.

It is useful to eat apples, pears, plums, grapes, buckwheat, oatmeal, pumpkin, cauliflower.

Diet for urate

Urate precipitates in a very acidic environment. Therefore, in the presence of these stones, it is necessary to eat so that the reaction of urine becomes alkaline. These stones grow very quickly, but if you follow a diet, they can also shrink quickly.

With urates, it is recommended to temporarily abandon meat and fish or reduce their share in the menu. It is allowed to eat boiled meat and fish twice a week.

You cannot eat liver, kidneys, meat of young animals (chicken, veal), meat and fish broths, legumes, mushrooms, cauliflower.

It is useful to eat milk and fermented milk products, porridge, lemon, grapefruit, other permitted fruits and vegetables.

Diet with phosphates

Phosphates, unlike previous stones, on the contrary, are formed in an alkaline environment. When they appear, you need to limit the intake of products rich in phosphorus and calcium, and try to change the pH of urine to an acidic side.

You can eat meat, fish, legumes, bread and flour products, cereals, pumpkin, Brussels sprouts, cranberries, red currants, sour apples

Limit the use of dairy products, most vegetables, fruits.

Doctors recommend following a diet even after effective treatment and the disappearance of kidney stones. This is necessary so that the stones do not appear again.
