Improper nutrition indirectly affects the strength of the eye muscles and the ability of the retina to generate nerve impulses, which affects the image formed by the brain.
That is why a balanced diet becomes part of the treatment for vision problems, along with the means prescribed by the doctor.
With eye diseases, the emphasis in the diet is, first of all, on food of plant origin, rich in vitamins and microelements.
Vitamin A is very important for vision. It is part of the light-sensitive substance in the retina. A lack of vitamin A is associated with vision problems such as rapid eye fatigue, "chicken blindness", increased sensitivity to bright light, frequent hives, conjunctivitis, iritis, corneal ulcers, a decrease in the thickness of the cornea and degeneration of the optic nerve.
The main sources of vitamin A: carrots, pumpkin, sea buckthorn, sweet pepper, green onions, parsley, broccoli, apricots, apples, rose hips, oats, sorrel, cod liver and beef liver, fat-rich dairy products, egg yolk. At the same time, it is better to eat carrots with fats, because this way the assimilation of carotene (from which the body synthesizes vitamin A) takes place much more actively.
Bringing the balance of vitamins of group B helps to fight such problems as impaired vision at dusk and at night, ruptures in the small blood vessels of the eyes, burning in the eyes, impaired color recognition, cataracts, diseases of the retina and optic nerve (B-2), twitching eyes, rapid eye fatigue (B-6), lacrimation (B-12).
Apples, cereals, yeast, milk, cottage cheese, eggs, nuts, meat, liver are rich in vitamin B-2. The main sources of vitamin B-6 are yeast, milk, cabbage, liver, wheat germ and grains, egg yolk, fish. Inexplicable, at first glance, vision impairment may be caused by a lack of iron. Its sources are meat, liver, poultry, fish, oysters, legumes, sprouted wheat, dried apricots, nuts, plum juice, brown and wholemeal bread, greens, pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
When cataracts are detected in the early stages, it is advisable to use products rich in iodine - seafood, beets, tomatoes, spinach, persimmons, apples, buckwheat and millet cereals, walnuts and pine nuts, dairy products.
In the treatment of conjunctivitis, photophobia, lacrimation, useful products rich in calcium. Calcium is better absorbed in the presence of vitamins D, C, polyunsaturated fatty acids and lactose. The main sources of calcium are dairy products. Other sources are green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, legumes.
Phosphorus actively participates in the process of assimilation of vitamins necessary for vision. In turn, phosphorus is assimilated only when properly combined with calcium. Their optimal combination is found in fatty cheese and hazelnuts, close to optimal - in beets, carrots, cabbage.
Chromium deficiency can worsen vision problems. Chromium is necessary for the normal operation of the neurons of the retina, which are responsible for the sensation of light and color. Beef liver, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy products, pearl barley, rye flour products, wheat germ, cheese, legumes, nuts, corn oil will enrich the diet with chromium.
