Taking apple cider vinegar can do much more harm to your health than it can help you lose weight.
Have you heard that apple cider vinegar is more useful than wine vinegar? You've probably heard of vinegar for weight loss ... How much can apple cider vinegar actually help us lose weight or consider such a statement a complete nonsense?
First, we need to clarify that apple cider vinegar contains acetic acid and taken in high amounts and higher concentrations it can be harmful. A case has been documented in which a woman taking a glass of apple cider vinegar a day developed osteoporosis , regardless of her young age. In addition to decreased bone density, she was diagnosed with low potassium , prone to fractures and fragile bones, and complained of constant muscle cramps . 1
Thus, as it damages the bones, vinegar is twice as dangerous for the teeth , because even before it affects their structure from the inside, it causes serious damage to their enamel on the outside, contributes to their rapid wear and erosion and demineralization in general. 2
Due to the high acid concentration, drinking vinegar can "burn" the lining of the esophagus. Therefore, experts recommend taking apple cider vinegar in an amount not exceeding 1-2 tablespoons per day and diluted in a glass of water (250 ml) .
Still, does apple cider vinegar have health benefits?
Apple cider vinegar is a fermented apple juice. It is rich in vitamin C and B vitamins . It may contain beneficial bacteria if it is unpasteurized and not filtered, but also contaminants. Given the amounts in which it can be taken without risk to health, for the benefit of its nutrients does not make much sense to comment. However, what is important to know is that especially taken with a glass of water before and during a meal or immediately after it helps to regulate blood sugar . It is especially useful in this regard if the menu is rich in carbohydrates, but complex carbohydrates. 3
People with heartburn should be careful with the intake of vinegar and will probably have to give up such a "weight loss method". They should certainly consult a specialist about how such a reception is suitable for them. People with type 1 diabetes and a lazy stomach - gastroparesis , due to the longer stay of food in the stomach, should also be careful with vinegar .
Vinegar and acetic acid reduce appetite , but not only - it is possible to adversely affect the digestive processes in some, which can cause unpleasant symptoms such as nausea.
Apple cider vinegar should not be taken when prescribing certain medications , such as insulin or insulin-stimulating drugs, in combination with potassium-lowering drugs, some diuretics. 4
As for the effect of apple cider vinegar to reduce weight and fat - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Carol Johnston of the University of Arizona, quoted by Men's Health 6 , said that it actually speeds up metabolism . Proof of this is a scientific study that shows weight loss 5 , but far safer for the effect of the measure is to maintain a balanced diet or developed one according to individual needs, as part of a comprehensive healthy lifestyle, instead of hope that we can lose more than 450 - 900 g in 3 months.
