Consumption of fruits and vegetables 5 times a day can prevent 15,000 cases of premature death - 7,000 from coronary heart disease, nearly 5,000 from cancer and more than 3,000 from stroke, according to a study conducted by researchers at Oxford University.
The study shows that reducing fat will save the lives of nearly 7,000 people, and reducing salt consumption will prevent 7,500 premature deaths.
The study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, analyzes coronary heart disease deaths, stroke and cancer, food and dietary data, and studies on the effects of food on disease and premature death in 2005. -2007
Experts advise eating at least 440 g of fruits and vegetables and 18 g of fiber every day.
One third of the total calories we absorb from food should come from fat, but the intake of saturated fat should not exceed 10%. No more than 6 g of salt should be consumed per day, experts add.
The results of other studies conducted earlier this year show that the British have indeed reduced the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Only about a third eat vitamin products five times a day.
