New research shows that eating nuts during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not harmful for mother and baby ...
Much has been said and written about nuts and their various properties. But here we present 5 not so popular fact about them that can be helpful, says dnes.bg .
1. Nuts have a satiating effect and are very suitable for a balanced diet.
However, this only applies if taken instead of one or more of the main dishes of the day, and not with the other food. A handful of nuts provide the necessary energy to the body for a long time. Nuts do not contain cholesterol because they are of plant origin.
2. Nuts can be a substitute for meat because of the large amount of protein they contain.
In addition, they are rich in iron and vitamin B for we have healthy hair and skin.
3. Consumption of nuts reduces the risk of type 2 diabetes, which is the most common type.
This is especially true of peanuts. This fact is due to their low glycemic index (the level of glucose in the blood and in the body - ed. Note) of nuts. The glycemic index determines how much the blood sugar will rise after eating a certain food.
Meals with a high glycemic index can increase blood glucose (and of course insulin levels) in a very short period of time. Conversely, foods with a low glycemic index have little effect on insulin secretion and blood sugar.
4. Nuts should be stored in a dry and cool place out of direct sunlight.
Moisture and heat are a prerequisite for the formation of harmful aflatoxins, which can even have a carcinogenic effect. Therefore, it is good for the nuts to be in opaque packages, and after opening them to be stored in a refrigerator or freezer.
5. Nuts are suitable for pregnant women and nursing mothers.
New research shows that eating nuts during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not harmful to mother and baby. Experts recommend eating 50 nuts a week from the so-called noble nuts - hazelnuts, almonds and cashews.
They contribute to the mother's healthy diet and provide the baby with minerals and vitamins.
The most useful nuts for pregnant and lactating women are almonds and cashews. They have a high content of magnesium (over 80% of the recommended daily dose), which is important for the development of the fetal skeleton.
However, caution should be exercised with peanuts because they can cause allergic reactions.
