Men should eat more foods rich in calcium, selenium and lycopene against prostate cancer.
A diet rich in selenium, calcium and lycopene reduces the risk of prostate cancer , according to a study by the University of Bristol , Cambridge and Oxford.
Especially useful in this regard are tomatoes, which reduce the risk of prostate cancer by 18%. However, this is necessary to consume 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a week, the researchers explain in an article published in the magazine . Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention.
Prostate cancer is the second most common cancer in men worldwide. The level of morbidity in developed economic countries jumps far above that of other countries, which is explained by the unnatural way of life. In the UK, about 10,000 men die of prostate cancer each year, with 35 new patients being diagnosed. In Bulgaria, 43 out of 100,000 men get sick every year, and a total of 271 out of 100,000 suffer from this cancer.
To assess the risk of diet for the development of prostate cancer in men, researchers followed the menu of 1806 patients aged between 50 and 69 years with such a diagnosis and 12 thousand other healthy men.
Meanwhile, the team finds out which foods help men's health and develop a diet against the disease. The group of foods useful for the prostate includes those containing selenium, calcium and the pigment lycopene . The latter is found in brightly colored fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruit, papaya and others . Especially useful for men are tomatoes or tomato juice, equal to 10 servings of vegetables. This amount should be consumed per week to achieve the beneficial effect against oncogenesis .
Selenium can be provided by the consumption of fish and seafood, as well as nuts, legumes, rice, corn, barley. Calcium , in addition to dairy products, can be obtained from nuts, legumes, barley, sesame seeds , green leafy vegetables.
