Not only vitamin-rich carrots and fish high in omega-3 fatty acids are good for eyesight.
U.S.A. researchers at the University of Georgia have found that leafy vegetables and fruits also improve eye health and protect against eye diseases.
According to the authors of the study, published in the Journal of Food Science, regular consumption of yellow, orange and red fruits, as well as green leafy vegetables, can prevent age-related eye diseases.
The beneficial effect of these products is explained by the high content of carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which play an important role in vision and have a beneficial effect on the retina.
Lutein and zeaxanthin help reduce the discomfort of bright light and limit recovery time from photo stress, improve contrast and increase visual range.
