Green Tea Gives Us Energy

Regular consumption of green tea helps maintain physical activity in the elderly.

Regular consumption of green tea helps improve mobility and stability at a later age, according to a Japanese study.

A number of scientists are studying the effects of drinking the drink. Due to the high content of antioxidants, green tea is extremely good for health and protects us from various diseases. It has been shown to help lower "bad" cholesterol, as well as lower the risk of cancer.

The aim of the present study was to determine whether green tea drinkers were less affected by the feeling of weakness and physical instability associated with advancing age. Within three years, experts from the School of Medicine at the University of Tohoku studied 14,000 people aged 65 and over.

According to the results, the adults who drink the most green tea have the lowest risk of developing "functional instability", problems with physical activity or performing daily activities such as changing clothes and bathing.

About 13% of participants who drank less than a cup of green tea a day were functionally unstable, compared to only 7% of people who consumed several cups.

The study does not prove that green tea is the main reason for better physical activity in adults, but it is believed that it reduces the risk of motor instability, the researchers said. Consumers who drink regularly also have a healthier diet, including fish, fruits and vegetables.

The results are published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition .
