We like to eat harmful foods. Chips, greasy burgers, french fries, pizza with too many spices, too sweet desserts, fizzy drinks are some of the temptations we consume daily. Sometimes we tell ourselves that nothing will happen to us if we relax and eat these foods at least once. However, they gradually damage our body and can cause certain health problems.
Doctors are adamant that harmful foods are slowly killing our bodies. Studies show that they not only lead to weight gain, dullness, but also to serious diseases such as cancer. They slow down the metabolic process in the body, affect our mental health, and can cause depression and other cognitive disorders.
Here's how our favorite junk foods predispose the body to diseases such as diabetes, heart problems, and even cancer:
- Excessive fats in food damage the liver and slow down metabolic processes;
- Lead to memory loss and disorientation;
- Increase the level of bad cholesterol in the body.
Diabetes
It is an inflammatory disease, and fats that accumulate in the body through harmful foods are the main cause. They irritate the pancreas in combination with the added sugar in processed foods, which does not give a feeling of satiety. Thus, harmful foods disrupt the normal digestive process and can most often lead to type 2 diabetes, which destroys specific organs and systems in the body.
Cirrhosis
The disease occurs when the liver stops functioning normally and the gallbladder stops responding to hormonal stimulation. The harmful food we eat is full of fat, which is unevenly distributed throughout the body. It damages the liver and significantly reduces the process of food breakdown.
Heart attack
The heart is one of the organs most affected by harmful food. Eating foods that increase bad cholesterol levels are the cause of heart problems, some of which are difficult to treat.
Cognitive problems
Harmful foods have a negative impact not only on our physical health, but also on our mental health. A study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2011 showed that fats and sugars in them slow down brain function, called brain neurotrophic factor, which helps learn and memorize information. Another study shows that harmful foods carry a risk of dementia.
