Healthy eating does not replace the intake of prescribed medications, on the contrary, it is taken as an alternative and supports the action of drugs.

Consumption of healthy foods can improve the behavior of children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics .

The study is based on data already obtained from studies to limit sugar intake and the association of the syndrome with a high-calorie diet rich in carbohydrates and fats.

Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are restless, impulsive, easily distracted, and inactive. The most commonly used drug to suppress the symptoms of hyperactivity is Ritalin .

Healthy eating does not replace taking prescribed medications, on the contrary, it is taken as an adjunctive therapeutic measure, say researchers from Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago.

The diet should include consumption of fish, legumes, foods rich in zinc and iron , fruits, vegetables.

Researchers are hoping for larger studies to examine the role of dietary regimen in the treatment of the syndrome.
