Necessary products:

  • 1 kg of sifted flour
  • 250 milliliters of warm milk
  • 42 grams of fresh yeast
  • 250 grams of crystal sugar
  • 50 grams of soft butter
  • 50 milliliters of oil
  • 6 eggs and vanilla powder
  • peel of one lemon
  • a few raisins or cloves
  • 200 grams of candied fruit
  • 30 grams of butter for spreading

Method of preparation:

Put the flour in a bowl. Make a well in the middle and in another bowl beat the eggs with the sugar and vanilla. Add the soft butter and oil to them. Dissolve the yeast in the milk and combine the two mixtures. Add the grated lemon peel, stir and add to the flour.

Make dough and leave it to rise. Then divide into equal parts, roll out the crust, grease with oil and sprinkle with candied fruit. Wrap each in a roll, make a knot and shape its ends. Press the first with your hands to get the shape of a bird's beak, and the second cut into strips so that it resembles feathers.

Garnish with raisins or cloves for the eyes and arrange in a tray lined with non-stick paper. Allow the chicks to double in volume and preheat the oven to 170 degrees. Bake until done, cool and decorate the holiday basket or table with them.

Enjoy!
