Required products :

  • 6 heads of yellow onion, cut into strips
  • 2 cloves garlic, pressed
  • 8 teaspoons beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry white wine
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 6-8 slices of toast
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated Gruyere

Method of preparation :

  • Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped onion and saute for 30 minutes, stirring often.
  • Add the garlic and cook for another 1 minute.
  • Add the beef broth, wine and thyme. Stir and after the soup boils, reduce the heat.
  • Cook over low heat under a lid for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  • Divide the onion soup into fireproof bowls, place 1 toasted slice of bread on top and sprinkle with freshly grated Gruyere.
  • Bake the French soup for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and slightly browned.
  • Serve it warm and enjoy it.
