Necessary products

For the meatballs:

  • 60 grams of mozzarella (you can use hard cheese)
  • a few sprigs of fresh rosemary or a little dried
  • 550 grams of minced meat (mixture)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 teaspoon breadcrumbs

For the sauce:

  • 3 onions
  • 2 carrots
  • 1 small sweet pepper
  • 1.5 teaspoons broth (optional) or water
  • 400 grams of canned tomatoes
  • 2-3 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (or to taste)
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Method of preparation

The meatballs

Cut the mozzarella into small pieces (according to the number of meatballs). If you use fresh rosemary, separate the leaves from the stems and chop finely (the leaves). Mash the garlic with a press, grate or chop.

Season the minced meat with oregano, rosemary and garlic, add the egg, breadcrumbs, salt and knead.

Form small round meatballs, put a piece of mozzarella in the middle of each and wrap in the minced meat.

Arrange the meatballs in a large plate sprinkled with flour and store in the refrigerator for half an hour.

You can then fry them until golden or bake in the oven at 190 degrees for 5-6 minutes.

The sauce

In a large skillet, heat a little oil. In it, fry the chopped onion for 5 minutes, add the coarsely grated carrots and peppers, cut into thin straws. After 5-7 minutes, add the tomatoes (mash them in advance), puree, pour the broth (or water). Season the sauce to taste by adding black pepper, sugar and salt. Stir and wait for the mixture to boil.

Return the meatballs to the pan with the sauce and simmer until cooked through, simmering for 20-25 minutes.

You can bake in the oven. The required time is the same and the degrees should be 190.

Serve with rice, pasta or fresh vegetable salad.
