These delicious meatballs are available for free in Iceland. You can always prepare them and give them away for free, or make the family happy for dinner with something different. You can even change the recipe according to the ingredients you have.

Necessary products:

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 small onion, cut into cubes
  • 2 small cloves garlic, chopped
  • 150 grams of cod fillet, without skin and bones
  • 150 grams of smoked cod or haddock (type of cod), without skin and bones
  • 80 grams of frozen peas
  • 2 teaspoons fresh mint, chopped
  • juice of 1 lemon + slices per serving
  • 2 tablespoons skim yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • cooking spray (or grease of your choice for greasing)

Method of preparation:

Steam the potatoes, onions and garlic until soft. Leave the onion and garlic in a bowl to cool and mash the potatoes in another bowl. Steam the fish for about 5-10 minutes or until done. Boil the peas in a saucepan with boiling water over high heat for 3-4 minutes. Drain, add mint, lemon juice, spices to taste and stir.

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees or to 180 degrees with a fan.

Mix the cooked onion and garlic with the potatoes, yoghurt, parsley and season with salt and pepper to taste. Add the fish and stir.

Make small balls of the pea mixture.

Divide the potato mixture into 4 balls, in the middle of each of them add a ball of peas, wrap well and form meatballs. Arrange them on a greased pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.

Serve them warm with lemon slices. Add salad of your choice.
