Required products :

  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 tablespoon spice for pumpkin pie
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon butter (about 110 grams), melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons flour
  • 1 protein, broken down
  • different sugar sprinkles - crystal sugar, red and white sugar pearls and other optional

Method of preparation :

Turn the oven to 165 degrees.

Put the sugar, molasses, pie spice and black pepper in the pan. Bring the mixture to a boil and remove from the heat, pour the soda and stir, add the butter. Stir constantly with a wire or fork and add the egg and then the flour.

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead to form.

Divide it in half and wrap one part in foil. Set aside.

Knead a rolling pin and the kitchen counter and roll out the dough into a large rectangle. Use a pizza knife to cut thin strips of it.

Transfer them to a tray lined with baking paper, leaving a distance of about 2 cm between the saltines.

Brush them with egg white and sprinkle with the desired decoration.

Bake them for 12-15 minutes, until they change color slightly.

Cool the saltines on a wire rack. Meanwhile, prepare the remaining saltines in the same way.

Sweet saltines can be stored for up to 2 weeks in a tightly closed container at room temperature.
