Required products :

500 grams of flour
5 eggs
2 tablespoons sugar
50 grams butter
50 milliliters of rum or liqueur
juice and peel of 1/2 lemon
pinch of salt
frying oil

For the sweet coating:

250 grams of honey
grated rind of 1/2 lemon
2-3 tablespoons of sugar
100 grams of candied or dried fruit for sprinkling

Method of preparation :

Sift the flour, mix it with 2 tablespoons of sugar and a pinch of salt. Then add the eggs and melted butter, pour rum and juice of 1/2 lemon along with the grated rind of half a citrus. Knead the dough, do not use more flour than the specified amount.
Cut the dough into small pieces, shape each of them as a "sausage" and cut into pieces.

When you cut the whole dough into "peas", heat a large amount of oil in a suitable deep pan with a thick bottom. Fry the dough until lightly golden. Remove on paper to drain off excess fat.

Mix honey and sugar in a bowl and heat until smooth. Pour the golden balls of dough and stir to cover with the sweet combination. Then add the grated lemon peel.

Place a box, cup, jar or bottle in the middle of a suitable wide dish (the goal is to make a circle in the center and make the dish look like a wreath) and distribute the strufoles around the selected dish. Sprinkle with candied or dried fruit (you can use another of your choice) and wait until the honey is firm. Then remove the container you put in the middle.

Decorate of your choice and submit.

Bon appetit and happy holidays!
