Required products :

  • 2 1/2 teaspoons warm water (45 degrees)
  • 1 teaspoon dry yeast
  • 1/2 teaspoon honey
  • 4 tablespoons oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 8 tea cups white flour
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds (optional)

Method of preparation :

Put the water in a large bowl and add the yeast. Wait for it to swell. Using a mixer, beat 2 eggs and honey in the liquid, add salt. Add the cups of flour one by one, stirring after each to absorb well. When the mixture becomes too thick to work with a mixer, use a spatula.

Transfer the dough to a well-floured kitchen counter and knead until it becomes soft and elastic and stops sticking (use more flour if necessary).

Leave it covered to rise for 1-1.5 hours.

With your palms, press the dough down and divide it into 2 parts. Stir each for 1 minute (if necessary, add a little flour so it doesn't stick). Cut each half into 3 more equal parts. Form a wick from each piece of dough with your hands.

To knit them in the correct shape, start making the braid from the middle of the rolls, then knit in the opposite direction. Insert the edges under the bread.

If you want, you can form one in a circle by following the steps above, and finally make a circle, intertwine the ends and insert them again at the bottom.

Transfer the two loaves to different trays that you have previously greased.

Cover and leave to rise again for about 1 hour.

Preheat oven to 190 degrees.

Beat the remaining egg and spread it on the two loaves. Sprinkle with poppy seeds if desired. Bake for 40 minutes, until the bread acquires a nice golden crust.

Cool on a wire rack before serving.
