Required products :

  • 2 1/4 tea cups wholemeal flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 115 grams of melted butter, unsalted
  • 3/4 teaspoon molasses
  • 1/4 tea cup of water
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • lubricating oil

For garnish :

  • ice cream
  • whipped cream

Method of preparation :

  • In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg.
  • In another bowl, mix the molasses with the melted butter and add them to the dry ingredients.
  • Gradually add the water, stirring with a wooden spoon.
  • Add the egg and buttermilk and stir again until smooth.
  • Grease the bottom and walls of a square baking dish approximately 23 cm in size.
  • Pour the dough into it and bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 30-35 minutes.
  • Cool the cake on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes before cutting.
  • Serve garnished with whipped cream or ice cream.
