Drying pears at home for the winter

Most people love pears for their taste and aroma. Jams, compotes, mashed potatoes are prepared from pears, added to pastries, they are frozen and dried. Dried pear has a special aroma and compotes cooked from it also have a specific taste and aroma.

For drying, it is better to choose varieties that have dense pulp, without a pronounced astringent taste, mature and tasty. Before you dry the pears, they must be washed and dried well. There is no need to peel pears from the skin and seed chamber. Properly dried pears with pits and seed chambers will have an extra, special flavor.

Cut large fruits into slices 0.5-1 cm thick, and small pears and wild game can be dried whole. Pears are dried outdoors, in a gas oven or in an electric fruit dryer. Depending on the variety, drying pears can take up to 20 hours, and if drying is carried out outside, then longer.

With any method of drying, the fruits must be periodically turned over. Store dried fruits in a dry, dark and cool place, in cloth bags or cardboard boxes.
