Power outages can affect products in the refrigerator .
The Public Health Center explained how to keep food safe for consumption.
By default, the refrigerator is kept at a temperature of 4°C or lower. In the freezer - below zero.
If the refrigerator door is tightly closed, it keeps cold for 4 hours. A full freezer will keep a minus temperature for 48 hours, and if it is half empty - 24 hours.
After this time, the temperature will gradually rise and the products may spoil. Therefore, it is important to prepare:
Freeze water containers or portable coolers for the refrigerator . They will help to maintain a constant temperature of food if you have to take products out of the refrigerator . If possible, buy dry or block ice. Control the temperature.
Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
If the power is out for more than 4 hours, put ice with the food in the refrigerator .
Never taste food to check its safety. If in doubt, throw it away.
The same should be done with food that has changed its smell, color or texture.
After 4 hours without electricity in the refrigerator (if you do not have additional cooling), you need to get rid of perishable products. For example, throw away meat, fish, cut fruits and vegetables, dairy products and their remains.
It is safe to re-freeze or cook frozen foods that still contain ice crystals or are at 4°C or below.
We remind you that in case of discomfort, diarrhea, fever, etc., follow the treatment recommendations from the Ministry of Health.
