Less Red Meat For Healthy Kidneys

Consumers of about 110 years of red meat a day have a 19% higher risk of kidney cancer, according to a US study.

People who regularly consume red meat are at risk of developing certain types of kidney cancer, according to a US study.

 
Consumption of red meat in large quantities is known to increase the risk of many health problems, such as plaque buildup in the arteries, said Dr. Mohamed Faramavi of the University of North Texas. 
 
For 9 years, scientists have tracked the eating habits, including meat consumption, of 500,000 people aged 50 and over. 
 
In the study, about 1,800 participants, or less than half a percent, were diagnosed with kidney cancer.
 
Summary data show that men consume an average of 50-85 g of red meat per day, compared to women who consume an average of 25-50 g 
 
Participants consuming the largest amount of red meat - about 110 g per day, are 19% more at risk of developing kidney cancer than those consuming less than 25 g per day.
 
According to scientists, excessive consumption of red meat carries a higher risk of papillary cancer. 
 
The results are published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition .
