In addition, avoiding starchy foods such as bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, limiting carbohydrate intake to 80-90 grams per day, mainly from vegetables and toast, prevents glucose spikes that require insulin to be given to diabetics.

Limiting carbohydrates to 20% of energy intake for the day provides adequate control over blood sugar and weight loss with a long-lasting effect.
