The Mediterranean diet uses olive oil for fat. The amount of meat consumed is limited, with an emphasis on fish, vegetables and fruits. Such a diet reduces the risk of inflammation leading to cardiovascular disease.
The Mediterranean diet emphasizes high consumption of vegetables and olives, fish and seafood, fruits. Olive oil is used for fat. Meat consumption is limited. White brined cheese is recommended.
A study of 3,000 Greeks aged 18 to 89 was conducted. It was found that participants who adhered more to the traditional Greek diet were less likely to suffer from inflammation leading to heart disease.
It has also been suggested that these results are due to the higher physical activity of the participants and the lower level of stress in the Mediterranean countries. However, indicators such as weight, physical activity, age, gender and educational level of the participants were taken into account in the study, so this thesis was rejected, which definitely proved the connection of the results with the Mediterranean diet.
Eating fish at least twice a week helps with good heart health. The effect of the nutrients on the fish is that it slows down the processes of damage to this organ. Healthier in this respect is the fish with dark meat - salmon, mackerel, tuna, sardines.
Another study shows that the fats contained in fish have a prophylactic effect against sudden cardiac arrest and reduce the likelihood of arrhythmia.
