Uveitis is an inflammation of the uveal tract and is one of the most common ophthalmic diseases. It can lead to significant deterioration of vision or to its complete loss.

Useful foods for uveitis

Therapeutic nutrition in the presence of the problem should be aimed at improving the general condition of the eyes and strengthening the immune system. Therefore, ophthalmologists recommend that the menu include as much as possible:

  • products containing vitamins A and D: cod liver, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, chicken eggs, vegetable fats, viburnum, oysters, cabbage;
  • carrots: they contain a large amount of carotene needed by the eyes;
  • apricots: are a source of potassium and vitamin A;
  • nuts and wheat germ: rich in vitamin E;
  • citrus fruits: contain vitamin C, which has a tonic effect on the body;
  • spinach: it contains lutein, which is good for the eyes;
  • bilberry: it contains vitamin A;
  • broccoli and corn: they are extremely useful in uveitis because they contain a large amount of antioxidants;
  • fatty fish species - rich in vitamin D.

Dangerous and harmful foods for uveitis

  • too salty products, as they can cause dryness and burning in the eyes;
  • alcoholic beverages - as a result of their use deteriorates the absorption of riboflavin, necessary for the eyes;
  • coffee - provokes constriction of the blood vessels of the eyes, respectively, the blood circulation is disturbed;
  • protein - their excessive consumption leads to constipation and accumulation of toxins in the body, as a result of which it is possible to increase intraocular pressure;
  • pasta containing starch - the ingredient does not have a beneficial effect on the retina;
  • chips, fast food, crackers, gazirani drinks.
