Olive oil in the salad daily prevents the development of breast cancer, say Spanish scientists who conducted clinical studies on the effects of the olive elixir on health.

Scientists have found that olive oil increases the body's defenses against cancer cells, stops their growth, destroys these cells and protects against potentially carcinogenic DNA damage.

The discovery was made by Spanish scientists from the University of Autònoma de Barcelona, who aimed to clarify the results of previous studies, which link high consumption of olive oil with a low risk of many cancers.

In clinical trials, scientists have found that olive oil prevents the inclusion of a gene that is linked to the growth of breast cancer. Olive oil destroys protein substances that are necessary for the functioning and existence of cancer cells. And it also protects DNA from damage that can lead to tumor development, the journal Carcinogenesis points out.

That is why Dr. Eduard Esrich recommends consuming 50 ml of olive oil every day, which is equivalent to 5 tablespoons of the invaluable liquid.

Breast cancer is one of the most common tumors. In the UK, more than 45,000 women are diagnosed with the disease each year.

Another Spanish study found some time ago that olive oil preserves the elasticity of the arteries and prevents the development of heart disease.

Experts believe that the results of this study, as well as others that show which foods have a protective effect against such serious diseases as cancer and heart disease, will help build healthy diets that protect against them, and not that science's efforts are focused only on finding preparations when they are already available.

The Mediterranean diet has been recommended for years against a number of diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.

This diet includes high consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish, nuts, whole grains and useful fats such as olive oil and at the same time low consumption of red meat and dairy products. Red wine also finds a place on the table.

The Greeks are the largest consumers of olive oil in the world, using it 20 times more - compared to the Italians ten - than the British.
