New observations have found an association between omega-3 fatty acid levels and the risk of depression. A study on the subject was published in the Journal of Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics. Among the subjects, the highest percentage of depression was at the lowest levels of fatty acids. Previous studies have also highlighted a link between them among non-hospitalized individuals diagnosed with stable angina.
The current observation takes into account the level of doccosahexaenoic, eicosapentaenoic acid, as well as age, sex, ethnicity. Fish and nuts are rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Their contribution to the treatment of cardiovascular disease, cancer and immune deficiency has been proven.
So far, the authors do not draw definite conclusions about the role of acids in depression. Preliminary data require confirmation in broader tests.
