Papaya is a tropical fruit that grows in the hot, humid regions of Central and South America, South Africa and Southeast Asia. It has long been available on the Bulgarian market.


Papaya is known by various names - often called "melon tree" in China and Sri Lanka, or "fruta bomba" in Cuba, Lechosa in the Dominican Republic, but the Caribbean name "papaya" has become the most widely used. Europeans find the fruit in the Caribbean.


The fruit is widespread and highly valued mainly due to the high content of vitamins A, B, C, D, E and K, minerals calcium, potassium, phosphorus, and trace elements iron, zinc, manganese, copper, vanadium, magnesium. Due to the rich and healthy mix of substances, it is also used for medicinal purposes - as part of dietary regimens for liver disease and viral hepatitis.



The fruit purifies the body, has a protective effect against cancer and constipation. It contains the digestive enzyme papain, which promotes good digestion and has a beneficial effect on gastrointestinal activity. Papaya juice relieves the symptoms of colon infections.
