Processed Meats Are Carcinogenic

Consumption of processed and red meats increases the risk of developing colon cancer.

For each serving of 50 g of processed meat per day, the risk of developing colon cancer increases by 18%. This was established by a research team from the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the World Health Organization. 
 
Processed meats join the WHO long list of carcinogenic foods and other products. It contains over 470 lines. The leaves contain alcoholic beverages, cigarettes , etc. 
 
Earlier this year, a meeting of scientists from around the world was held to assess the risk of developing cancer from the consumption of processed meat and red meat . To this end, researchers have analyzed more than 800 studies focusing on the link between cancer and red or processed meat. 
 
Most of the data show a link between the consumption of processed meats and colon cancer . The researchers also found a link between red meat and the development of pancreatic cancer , prostate cancer and stomach cancer .

The International Agency for Research on Cancer defines "processed meat" as "meat that has been processed by salting, fermentation, smoking or other processing that enhances taste or improves storage". The researchers explain that the processed meats contain mainly pork and beef , but it is possible to find other red meats, chicken or other meat products, such as blood. 
 
In a report published in The Lancet Oncology , the Agency clarified that meat processing processes can lead to the development of carcinogens . 
 
The risk of colon cancer can be reduced by eating more vegetables and fish.
