Prunes contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. 

 

Soluble fiber is found in the fleshy part of plums. They are absorbed and help break down and eliminate fats, sugars, bacteria and toxins from the body. These fibers break down carbohydrates, lower bad cholesterol levels and have a good effect on cardiovascular disease.

 

Insoluble fiber is found in the skin of the fetus. They are not absorbed by the body. This type of fiber acts as a brush for the digestive tract, they remove retained toxins and other unnecessary products. Due to the content of both types of fiber, prunes are one of the best natural remedies against constipation, as they regulate intestinal activity and normalize blood sugar.

 

A 2013 study concluded that daily consumption of prunes at least twice a day increases the feeling of satiety and reduces food needs. This affects conditions such as overweight, diabetes and related cardiovascular diseases . The content of soluble (digestible) fiber in prunes lowers the levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol in the blood.


Prunes promote cognitive skills. Phytonutrients in plums have an anti-inflammatory effect and also improve the ability to learn and memorize new information. This gives scientists reason to claim that prunes can be used in the prevention of diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's.
