Chemicals found in soy nuts can relieve menopausal symptoms. So-called isoflavone aglycones in soy lower cholesterol, suppress the effects of free radicals and prevent atrophy of the vaginal epithelium.
Scientists from Thailand are monitoring hormonal changes in experimental animals. They have a good model of menopause through mice whose ovaries have been removed. This leads to a decrease in estrogen levels in the body, similar to the finding of menopause. These soy substances have strong estrogenic activity. In experimental conditions, they significantly improve hormonal deficiency. Special achievements are registered in the increase of HDL-cholesterol and the decrease of LDL-cholesterol. This is the basis of the prevention of cardiovascular disease, the frequency of which, as we know, is rapidly increasing after menopause.
Experts from Thailand hope that this approach will become a suitable alternative to hormone replacement therapy, associated with an increased risk of breast and uterine malignancies.
