Adherence to the Mediterranean diet not only improves heart function, but also mental.

Spanish researchers have analyzed the health data of 1,000 people for 6 years. During this period, volunteers are on a Mediterranean type of diet, which includes high consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish , nuts, whole grains and healthy fats, such as those in olive oil, and avoid consumption of red meat and dairy products.
The results of the study show that the volunteers had improved cognitive activity compared to the control group, which was on a low-fat diet.
Foods that are included in the Mediterranean diet, including red wine, are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. They reduce the risk of damage to the cardiovascular system , inflammation and oxidative damage to the brain.
The results and data from the study are published in the journal Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry .
In addition to brain activity, there is scientific evidence that the Mediterranean type of diet has a beneficial effect on fertility , heart health and reduces the risk of heart attack and the development of malignancies.
