Consumption of vegetables at least eight times a week, fish at least three times and legumes at least once a week optimize protection against allergic diseases. Certainly, products rich in antioxidants are important, but more work is needed to understand the mechanism of this protection.
In the study, 468 women were followed from pregnancy to about 6 years of age of their children. Their eating habits and the presence of possible allergy symptoms in their children were analyzed. It turns out that adherence to the Mediterranean type of diet during pregnancy reduces by up to 80% the incidence of asthma in children and by up to 45% - that of allergies.
