The Mediterranean Diet Improves Fertility

The Mediterranean diet includes the consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grains, nuts, legumes and moderate alcohol intake.

Women who follow the Mediterranean type of diet are more protected from possible problems related to the possibility of pregnancy , according to a new study conducted in Spain.

The study involved nearly 500 women with reproductive problems and more than 1,600 women who have at least one child.

The volunteers were asked a series of questions about their diet and whether they followed the Western or Mediterranean diet.

The Western diet includes red meat, potatoes, refined grains and sugar, high-fat products and more.

The Mediterranean diet includes the consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish, whole grains, nuts, legumes and moderate alcohol intake.

About 17% of women who follow a strict Mediterranean diet say they have had no problems getting pregnant, compared to 26% who do not follow the diet so closely and have fertility problems .

Researchers believe that the Mediterranean diet has a protective effect on insulin resistance and hormones involved in the ovulation process and essential for reproduction.

This type of diet contains nutrients that help the body maintain normal blood sugar levels, which helps maintain the balance of reproductive hormones , the researchers found.

Diet can reduce the risk of infertility, but it is not a cure for pre-existing infertility, experts warn.
